The latest, hottest, pixel pushing from the studio of Paul Morton's Hot Frog Graphics

Hozelock BizziBee

This was a wonderful project to be involved in. I was approached by Hozelock the well established garden equipment company. They wanted a bee character to assist with their marketing and support their ecological stance. After many sketches and initial character iterations we finally developed Bizzi Bee.

I supplied Bizzi in various poses and suplied a DIY kit of body parts and garden items so that literally 100’s of permutations could be achieved by the extremely competent  Hozelock in-house design team.

Bizzi is just starting to appear on the market, see the seeds pack image, and I’m hoping Bizzi will soon become a household favourite.

First Aid Friends

This was a dream commission for me. Design a frog character that would star in the lead role of a First Aid Campaign for kids. First Aid Friends was born featuring Felix – the First Aid Frog.

After the initial logo and branding I helped conceive and write a story to deliver the first aid message to schoolchildren and illustrated a 30 page booklet. See also my Graphics section which features some of the design work done for the school pack that accompanies First Aid Friends.

Kellogs CocoPops

The first three of six new cereal packs illustrated for Kellogs. These were commissioned by brand giants TAG and feature the characters from the recent TV ads enjoying various puzzles and games.

Ginger Le tour

I always thought Ginger Le Tour sounded like a fading cabaret starlette from the late 19th century.

However, it proved an exciting job for me. Morrisons commissioned (via Live and Breathe agency) a life sized child model artwork panel, where kids could be photographed alongside a cycling Ginger. He was punching the air in triumph having finished one of the tougher stages of Le Tour – which of course, started magnificently in Yorkshire.

A smart move by the supermarket as the tour was incredibly popular and well supported.

Over 2.5 million supporters lined the route and a staggering 3.5 billion watched worldwide.

Ginger Mum’s Day

Next up for Ginger was a heart warming meeting with his dear old mum.

She needed to have iced hair and rollers to match the (not-so-attractive) biscuit on sale in the store.

I pondered about this for a while and decided that plasticene was much more controllable than icing and so made my own bits and pieces for reference.

Ginger Valentine

In a funny kind of way I took over from Ant and Dec!

The ubiquitous duo had been enlisted to run Morrison’s Christmas TV commercials, but the real star of the show was Ginger.

The animated all-singing and dancing little sweetmeat from their bakery counter.

After the festive season Morrisons wanted to keep Ginger onboard as a useful and versatile marketing tool. They commissioned me to create a tasty new version of Ginger and his first outing was for their Valentine’s promotions.

It took quite a bit of texture experimentation before arriving at the semi realistic, but not too crumbly, gingerbread look.

Disney Pictopia

I was commissioned to help out with some of the Disney Pictopia game board and playing card artwork on this exciting looking family board game from Disney

It was produced by Forrest Pruzan in Seattle and is yet another quality product that I’ve been able to help with.

Golden Eagle

The Golden Eagle Brewery is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, just about as far away as you can get from Barnsley.

Christmas playset

Another fun magnetic sticker set in the Imaginetics range. Commissioned by Interplay in the US.

Construction App.

This is an idea I’m pitching to publishers at the moment.

Crazy Creatures

These sketches and sample illustrations were part of a much bigger project that has, for the moment, ground to a halt.

Crazy creatures based on real-life names were brought to life and were planned for a widespread marketing spree.
